I’m moving my family from Fairbanks down to Kenai the beginning of next month. There is so much to do still. I decided to use this assignment as means to get organized and to make sure that we can move in the most strategic and orderly fashion. To do this, I used the Evernote app.
Evernote is very easy to use. I went ahead and downloaded to the app to my MacBook Pro; free and painless. The free version allows you to take different notes and compile them into a notebook. So, as of now, I have a notebook titled “The Move.” Inside of the notebook, I have different notes containing cleaning checklists, packing lists, reminders, UHaul reservations, and travel itineraries.
One thing that I like about Evernote is that you can drop PDFs directly into the notes. For example, I was able to drop my trailer reservation directly into one note.
Evernote has proved to be useful because now all of my moving information is found in one place, even the documents. It’s really easy to just add a note when I think of something that I’d previously forgotten. One feature that I plan on using in the future is the “tag” feature. As the list of notes and notebooks grow, I can start tagging each one individually. So, instead of digging through all of the information, I can just search the tag, and all the notes with similar tags will show up. That makes navigation that much easier.
All this to say, I’m already feeling much better about this move. I feel like I have more direction in the things that need to be accomplished in the next few short weeks.
